The Great Debate: Paraffin V Soy Wax

Here at Angel Wood Candles, we are committed to creating and supplying a top-quality product.   In order to do this, we take time to research and source the best ingredients.

One of the main ingredients within a candle is wax and we are firm believers in the use of paraffin wax. However, in recent

times, soy wax has started to trend within the candle industry and we have had customers question us in our use of paraffin wax. So, we wanted to clear up a few myths about soy wax and inform you of OUR reasons for using paraffin...

  1. Paraffin Wax is toxic - FALSE, no candle has ever been shown to be toxic to human health. Paraffin is approved for use in food, cosmetics, candles and medical applications.

  2. Paraffin Wax has a better scent throw - TRUE, as paraffin wax has a higher melt pool temperature.

  3. Candles made with soy wax do not produce soot but candles made with paraffin do - FALSE, there is no such thing as a soot-free wax. To help avoid soot, always trim your wick before lighting your candle.

  4. Soy Wax is all natural - FALSE, all waxes are primarily hydrocarbons and chemicals are added to soy wax to create a waxy substance.

  5. Paraffin Wax produces a steady burn - TRUE, this ensures your wax is burning evenly from top to bottom and there is no wastage.
